Having choices in class is important for helping students gain confidence and feel connected to the learning activities they participate in each day. This year my goal is to provide more seating choices for my students. During Writing and Reading Workshop, students will be able to choose to sit at a desk or around the room with a clipboard. Using tall tables with bar stools and floor seating areas with a rug, I will be able to add more flexible seating areas for my students. By providing flexible seating in my classroom, my students will be able to choose the best learning space for themselves. Allowing my students to choose their own learning space has helped my students feel more in control of their own learning and focus better on their work; which has lead to a decrease of distractions in our classroom.
