For many of the scholars, this was their first time leaving the country and even their first time flying on an airplane. Receiving new luggage gave them a sense of pride, confidence, and preparation as they embarked on an experience that expanded their understanding of the world and what is possible for their futures. The donations removed a financial barrier for families while also showing the boys that their community believes in them and supports their growth.\r\n\r\nThroughout the trip, the scholars explored historical landmarks, experienced different cultures, practiced independence, and represented themselves with excellence on an international stage. From walking through the streets of London, to learning the rich history of Madrid, to experiencing the beauty and culture of Paris, the boys were exposed to educational opportunities that extended far beyond the classroom. The luggage donations were more than just travel accessories — they became symbols of opportunity, dignity, and investment in young Black leaders. Because of this support, our scholars were able to travel confidently, create lifelong memories, and return home inspired to dream bigger for themselves and their communities.","fullyFundedDate":1773068145865,"projectUrl":"project/black-boys-from-southeast-dc-go-internat/10132282/","projectTitle":"Black Boys From Southeast DC Go International!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Wideman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10441983"},{"teacherId":9300895,"projectId":9139000,"letterContent":"Thank you so much. The trip was a fantastic time. My students and I really apreciate you for the experience. When my students first saw the suitcases, the room filled with excitement and pride. They realized that this trip to Europe was really happening. These suitcases represent more than just luggage; they symbolize opportunity, exposure, and growth. My students carefully packed their belongings while learning about travel preparation, cultural etiquette, and geography. For many, this was their first time leaving the country, so the moment was truly life-changing. Seeing them take ownership of their packing and talk about what they were most excited to experience such as new foods, historic landmarks, and meeting people from different backgrounds was unforgettable. Our next step is to document our experiences abroad through journals and photo reflections, connecting what we learn overseas to our classroom lessons in history, math, and global citizenship.","fullyFundedDate":1741974678736,"projectUrl":"project/helping-black-boys-travel-to-europe-for/9139000/","projectTitle":"Helping Black Boys Travel to Europe for Critical Exposure","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Pugh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9300895"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_125248","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":307,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":97,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"4 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":43.4,"schoolId":125248,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Statesmen College Preparatory Academy Boys on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Statesmen College Preparatory Academy Boys","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/district-of-columbia/district-of-columbia-public-charter-school-board/statesman-clg-prep-academy-boys/125248"}
