The students enjoy the hands on aspect of moving them around when we are reading the stories. It helps the young learners to stay focused and more involved in the lessons. \r\n\r\nWe also really appreciate the noise suppressing headphones, the therapeutic bands, the multiple fidgets and strips for sensory. These items are helping student stay more focused and learn. We read How to Catch a Gingerbread Man and How to Build a Gingerbread House. That was followed by the students creating their own gingerbread house out of graham crackers , frosting, and candy. We all had so much fun!\r\nThe excitement didn't stop there. Following the gingerbread house making, the students engaged in some fun sticker art and frame making. Students and reading intervention teachers have been putting these phonics readers to good use. These decodable texts are accessible for students in grade K-3 and are used almost daily during reading intervention groups. We have many teachers who are also trying to make the switch to using decodables like these, instead of leveled readers.\r\n\r\nThese phonics readers are also helping us build our school library of decodable texts. With books like these, we are able to explicitly teach phonics skills and connect that learning back to a text. Students are able to apply their new knowledge of phonics rules to the words in the text. Many students are showing great improvements with their phonics skills!\r\n\r\nHaving these brightly colored phonics readers has been a huge help and are a great addition to our literacy program.
