When I first thought of this idea, I knew I would need support of others who would see the need to encourage students to read. As the gifts started coming in my kids got more and more excited! They can't wait for the chance to win one of the prizes. As the items sit above my cupboards, students look at them each day and they constantly talk about which gifts they hope to win. \r\n\r\nThroughout the last few months of this projects, students have read hundreds of books. They have branched out to many new genres and most students have found new books and genres that they love. A few of my students who were reluctant readers before are being motivated to read and present their books to the class. In addition, students are reading each other's favorite books and we have been able to build a culture of reading in the classroom. No one complains when it is time to read because they are highly motivated to get their name on the board to win a prize! \r\n\r\nFurthermore, I have seen many students gain their confidence in reading and really start to enjoy the process. I have heard many students say, \"This book is so great\", \"I can't wait for silent reading time\", or the audible groan when I tell them to put their books away. These gifts have truly made a difference in my classroom and for my students. My students are continuing to blow me away with their love of reading and your donation has had a huge part in this transformation.
