Over the past few weeks, STEM and Chemistry students have been busy learning about the chemistry behind the natural dyeing process. It has been a great way to bring to life a variety of chemistry principles that they learned throughout this school year. STEM students also designed and conducted their own experiments to test how variations to the dye procedure altered the finished dye product. All students used the results of these experiments to create a final large piece that they loved!\r\n\r\nIn the attached photos, you can see my classroom at various stages in the process. Hanging on the walls, you can see students' initial test designs before and after the dyeing step. The next two photos are of students during the mordanting stage in which they are painting metal solutions onto the fabric. The next two photos show our modified drying rack for the bigger fabric pieces before and after dyeing. Finally, the last photos show students with their large finished pieces. \r\n\r\nStudents have been asking non-stop if they can take their pieces home yet. (I kept them for the final photos until today.) Some are excited to wear them as bandanas, and others are making them into wall art or flags for their rooms or upcoming dorm rooms. Your generosity is so appreciated in making this unique and impactful experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1772159953969,"projectUrl":"project/the-chemistry-of-natural-dyeing-painti/9920696/","projectTitle":"The Chemistry of Natural Dyeing - Painting with Mordants","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Potter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9081038_orig.png?crop=945,945,x36,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763918685888","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9081038"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38983","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":882,"numTeachers":54,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":72.4,"schoolId":38983,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about St Albans Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"St Albans Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/west-virginia/kanawha-county-school-district/st-albans-senior-high-school/38983"}
