One of the most memorable moments was when the students first saw the doll house and baby dolls. Some of them had never had access to toys like these before, so their reaction was pure amazement. They were in complete awe of the doll house and couldn't wait to start playing with it. It was incredible to see how excited they were—immediately, they started interacting and communicating with one another in ways they hadn't before.\r\n\r\nWhat was even more remarkable was how the students used more language during this playtime than they had all year. The doll house became a catalyst for language development, as they eagerly expressed ideas, shared stories, and created dialogues between the baby dolls. The social-emotional benefits were just as significant. I watched my students practice essential skills like sharing, cooperation, and empathy. They showed a natural inclination to take care of the dolls and even comforted them when they were \"upset.\" It was clear they were learning important lessons in nurturing and understanding others' emotions.\r\n\r\nThe STEM toys, like the car and track, have also been fantastic. These toys sparked a lot of interest in engineering and problem-solving. The students used their creativity to build tracks and race the cars, all while practicing their ability to follow instructions and solve problems as a team. Watching them work together to figure out how to get the cars to run smoothly was a beautiful example of how they applied their learning in a hands-on way. These activities fostered critical thinking, collaboration, and perseverance.\r\n\r\nThe jellyfish lamp, with its calming colors and motion, became a peaceful focal point for students to gather around, which also fostered conversations about feelings. The students were able to share how the colors made them feel, connecting the visual experience with emotional language, which was incredibly powerful for my ELL students as they navigated both language and emotions. This simple, yet impactful, addition to the classroom created a safe space for students to open up and engage with one another.\r\n\r\nOverall, these resources have been invaluable in supporting my students' language development, social-emotional growth, and problem-solving skills. They have helped create a classroom environment where students feel encouraged to express themselves, collaborate, and build empathy for others. I am grateful to have these tools to support my students in such meaningful ways. I would love to continue this project by adding even more role-play toy sets in my classroom that will foster love for a future career. For example, costumes, doctor/dentist sets, or cooking toys.","fullyFundedDate":1731017621032,"projectUrl":"project/learning-beyond-pencil-and-paper/8549662/","projectTitle":"Learning Beyond Pencil and Paper","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cuadrado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9624191_orig.jpg?crop=2593,2593,x1370,y255&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722745798984","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9624191"},{"teacherId":8906870,"projectId":7091776,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support!
