They walked in, stopped in the doorway, and one of them said, \"Wait — is this our room?\" The reading nook bookcases became an instant favorite, and within the first week I had students asking if they could use their independent work time to sit in them. For a group of students who often treated reading as something that happened to them rather than something they chose, that was a meaningful shift.\r\nWe put every piece of your generous gift to work. The storage cabinets with casters made our classroom library genuinely organized for the first time. Students could browse by genre, find what they wanted, and return books independently without my help. The area rugs transformed two corners of the room into defined reading spaces, which matters more than it might sound: when a space looks like a place for reading, students treat it that way. The floor cushions came out during independent reading and small-group work, and the quiet competition for a cushion spot became its own small daily motivation.\r\nThat classroom environment made a real difference in how my students engaged with learning throughout the rest of the year. Thank you for believing that the space a child learns in is worth investing in. Your contribution helped build something those students were proud of, and I carried that lesson with me into the classroom I walk into today.","fullyFundedDate":1684541260479,"projectUrl":"project/3rd-grade-classroom-library-revamp/7327550/","projectTitle":"3rd Grade Classroom Library Revamp!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Shelver-Goodrich","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5152067_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1532307139853","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrgoodrich2nd"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_68563","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":769,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":52,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.3,"schoolId":68563,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Southwest Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Southwest Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/savannah-chatham-county-school-district/southwest-elementary-school/68563"}
