Students took full ownership of the project: researching native species, mapping the garden layout, preparing the soil, and planting regionally appropriate flowering and host plants. One powerful classroom moment came when students observed a caterpillar that came with the plants, metamorphose into a butterfly in the classroom. Their excitement was genuine. They realized they weren't just completing a school assignment, they were actively restoring habitat and contributing to something larger than themselves.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, students were eager to get started. Many had never worked hands-on with native plants or understood how pollination directly connects to the food on their tables. Watching them carefully space seedlings, label plant varieties, and install educational signage showed a deep sense of pride and responsibility. They began asking thoughtful questions about food security, ecosystem balance, and how small local actions can create ripple effects in a community. The project moved from an idea on paper to a living, growing ecosystem, one they built themselves.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue maintaining and expanding the pollination station while collecting observational data on pollinator activity and plant growth. They are planning to connect this habitat directly to our school and community garden efforts, strengthening crop yields that support families in need and local outreach programs. The space will also serve as an outdoor classroom where future lessons in biology, environmental science, and sustainability come to life. Your support has done more than fund plants and tools, it has empowered students to care for their environment, support food access initiatives, and build a more resilient, compassionate community","fullyFundedDate":1768614146993,"projectUrl":"project/bring-back-the-bees-creating-a-pollina/10021655/","projectTitle":"Bring Back the Bees: Creating a Pollination Station","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Eutsey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5236895_orig.jpg?crop=956,956,x877,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1575419909126","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5236895"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91250","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":566,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":93,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":86.7,"schoolId":91250,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Southmoreland Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Southmoreland Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/southmoreland-school-district/southmoreland-senior-high-school/91250"}
