These engaging books provide students with exciting stories, colorful illustrations, and relatable characters that capture their attention and encourage them to pick up a book with enthusiasm. Having access to books that genuinely interest them helps build confidence, strengthen reading skills, and foster a lifelong love of literacy.\r\n\r\nThis project has made reading more accessible, enjoyable, and exciting for all of our students. Graphic novels offer valuable opportunities for students to develop vocabulary, strengthen reading comprehension, practice making inferences, and build fluency while enjoying stories that meet their interests and diverse reading levels. Most importantly, these new books have helped create excitement around independent reading and encouraged students to explore new stories.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful to our donors for investing in our students and helping bring this project to life. While many donors are familiar with technology at home, this technology plays a very intentional role in our classroom by supporting literacy, independence, and engagement.\r\n\r\nThe Tonies device helps bring stories to life in a way that is interactive and easy for young learners to use on their own. Students are able to listen to books, follow along, and build comprehension skills without needing constant adult support. The listening center with headphones allows students to hear fluent reading, which strengthens their vocabulary, improves pronunciation, and builds confidence—especially for emerging and struggling readers.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is the independence and choice this technology provides. They love being able to select their own stories and control their listening experience. The hands-on nature of the Tonies characters makes it feel like play, while they are actually developing important literacy skills.\r\n\r\nWe have seen several students especially thrive with this new technology. Some of our more reluctant readers are now eager to engage with books because they can listen and follow along without frustration. Students who need extra support with focus benefit from the headphones, which help minimize distractions and allow them to fully immerse themselves in a story. Additionally, our English language learners have shown growth in language development as they hear correct pronunciation and natural storytelling.\r\n\r\nOverall, this technology has made reading more accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all of our students. It has created opportunities for independence, built confidence, and helped foster a genuine love of stories in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1763600333450,"projectUrl":"project/tuned-in-an-ear-smart-approach-to-readi/9680000/","projectTitle":"Tuned In: An Ear-Smart Approach to Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wilkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1935426_orig.jpg?crop=382,382,x80,y105&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565394341116","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1935426"},{"teacherId":48000,"projectId":9488659,"letterContent":"Receiving these wonderful books have given a confidence booster for my students in need of a more individualized learning resource. We have been able to move more quickly in the Ukulele curriculum. The students have learned how to properly hold the instruments, play individual strings and a few chords. We are working on playing chord progressions more smoothly and accurately. \r\n\r\nIn the next couple of months, our goal is to learn several more chords and increase the complexity of the music we can play.
