While we're just at the beginning of the semester and haven't started Julius Caesar yet Long Way Down is already making a noticeable difference in my classroom. Reading in my classroom is active and collaborative. Students participate in silent sustained reading, engage in discussions, and compare ideas through paired text. \r\n\r\nSome students have especially thrived with Long Way Down. For instance, a student who usually avoids reading is now actively participating in class discussions, while another student who struggles with comprehension is confidently identifying themes and character motivations. These books are helping my students grow as readers, thinkers, and individuals, and are showing them that literature can reflect their lives and experiences.\r\n\r\nLater this semester, we will begin Julius Caesar with the No Fear side-by-side translation, which will allow students to tackle complex language and timeless themes about power, loyalty, and choice with confidence. Now they stay in band, start at the same time and have the same things as other students.
