Because of your generosity, my students now have the opportunity to engage with a series that not only strengthens their reading skills but also fosters self-confidence, cultural awareness, and a love for storytelling.\r\n\r\nThese books have introduced essential reading skills such as character analysis, making inferences, and identifying themes like self-acceptance, perseverance, and embracing one's heritage. As we read Stella Díaz's journey together, students are learning to connect deeply with characters, make text-to-self connections, and engage in meaningful discussions about identity and belonging.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom has become more interactive and engaging than ever. In small groups, students take turns reading aloud, discussing Stella's challenges and triumphs, and making predictions about her story. We've used these books to strengthen vocabulary, enhance comprehension through journaling, and even spark creative writing projects where students craft their own stories of resilience and self-discovery.\r\n\r\nSome students have particularly connected with Stella Díaz, finding pieces of themselves in her experiences. One student, who was initially hesitant to speak up in class, shared how she related to Stella's struggles with confidence and language. Seeing her open up and express her thoughts so enthusiastically has been one of the most rewarding moments of this project. Another student, who previously struggled with reading motivation, is now excited to dive into the next book in the series—asking insightful questions and making thoughtful observations.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students are not only becoming stronger readers but also gaining a deeper appreciation for diverse stories that reflect real-life experiences.
