One of the key reasons for this engagement is the variety of book options now available to them. By offering students more choices, we are better able to meet their diverse interests and reading levels, which in turn keeps them more motivated to read. When students are allowed to choose from a range of titles, they are more likely to feel connected to the material and take ownership of their reading journey.\r\n\r\nTo support this enthusiasm and deepen their understanding, we will be engaging in a series of creative and reflective activities throughout the book set. Students will be keeping reading journals, where they will respond to prompts, reflect on what they've read, and track their thoughts and feelings about the story. These journals will serve as a space for students to explore themes, characters, and personal connections to the text.\r\n\r\nIn addition to journaling, students will complete \"one-pagers\" for different sections of the book. These one-pagers are a fun and flexible way for students to visually and textually represent their understanding of key scenes, characters, or themes. They often include a mix of written summaries, quotes, drawings, and symbols that demonstrate comprehension in a creative format. This approach not only helps students process what they've read but also allows them to express their learning in a way that feels meaningful and individualized.\r\n\r\nAnother engaging activity we'll be incorporating is the creation of comic strips based on scenes from the books. This gives students the opportunity to retell important moments in a visual storytelling format, practicing sequencing, summarizing, and dialogue writing skills. For many students, this hands-on, artistic approach makes the reading material more accessible and enjoyable.","fullyFundedDate":1746665903244,"projectUrl":"project/books-posted/9303431/","projectTitle":"Books Posted","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3344343_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1449174470484","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3344343"},{"teacherId":3344343,"projectId":9231671,"letterContent":"These new books introduce students to a wide range of literacy skills, including making inferences, analyzing character development, identifying themes, and comparing texts. More importantly, the stories spark meaningful conversations around empathy, resilience, and diverse perspectives. Many of the books in our study also support social-emotional learning by helping students connect personally with the characters and reflect on their own experiences.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is both collaborative and reflective. We use a mix of whole-group discussions, small reading groups, and individual reflection journals. Students share their thoughts, challenge each other's interpretations, and engage in creative responses like drawing scenes, writing letters to characters, or acting out key moments. Our classroom often buzzes with energy as students make connections between the text and their lives.\r\n\r\nOne student who previously struggled to stay engaged during reading time has become completely absorbed in one of the books from our study. She's been asking to read ahead and even brought in a sketchbook to draw scenes inspired by the story. Another student, who is typically quiet, has found his voice in our group discussions and now volunteers his insights regularly. These books have opened up new avenues for confidence, creativity, and connection.","fullyFundedDate":1744238428187,"projectUrl":"project/read-to-succeed/9231671/","projectTitle":"Read to Succeed","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3344343_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1449174470484","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3344343"},{"teacherId":1495888,"projectId":9149219,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating snacks and water bottles to my students!
