I wanted my classroom to be more than desks and chairs. I wanted it to be a place where my students feel comfortable, safe, welcomed, and excited to learn. When they first saw the bean bags, donut seats, and exercise balls, they were so excited! They immediately wanted to try everything and find their favorite spot.\r\n\r\nAs a special education teacher, I know that every student does not learn best sitting at a traditional desk all day. My students now have the freedom to choose seating that helps them regulate their bodies, stay focused, read comfortably, and participate in ELA and Social Science lessons. For some students, having the opportunity to move or simply sit somewhere comfortable can make a huge difference in their ability to focus and learn.\r\n\r\nSeeing my students actually enjoy being in our classroom has been one of my favorite parts of this project. You helped me create a space that meets my students where they are and reminds them that their individual needs matter. Thank you for investing in my students and helping me give them a classroom that truly feels like their space.","fullyFundedDate":1777926513396,"projectUrl":"project/calm-bodies-focused-minds-ready-to-lea/10158713/","projectTitle":"Calm Bodies, Focused Minds, Ready to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Shorter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10464790_orig.jpg?crop=1341,1341,x0,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1775142935391","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10464790"},{"teacherId":10504227,"projectId":10276968,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous contributions, we have transformed a corner of our classroom into a dedicated calm space complete with sensory seating, soft lighting, and calming tools. When the boxes first arrived and the students saw the new cushions and gentle lighting set up, their faces lit up with excitement, and several students immediately whispered about how cozy it looked.\r\n\r\nAs a next step, students are incorporating this calm space into their daily self-regulation routines by identifying their emotions and choosing appropriate calming strategies independently before transitioning between subjects.
