In our Exceptional Student Education (ESE) classroom supporting Kindergarten and 1st-grade students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), these treats are used as powerful positive motivators during structured learning blocks, communication exercises, and social-emotional skill-building activities.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the classroom was absolute pure joy! When the boxes arrived and were opened, the children's faces lit up at the colorful variety of familiar crackers, fruit snacks, and cookies. For many of our young learners on the spectrum, familiar and comforting items provide a profound sense of security and engagement. Several students clapped their hands, pointed excitedly at the boxes of Pringles and fruit gummies, and immediately engaged in pointing and vocalizing choices, which naturally sparked wonderful spontaneous communication moments among peers and teachers alike.\r\nBuilding on the momentum and positive engagement established with these resources, our next steps focus heavily on expanding independent routines, choice-making, and foundational daily living and social skills. We are currently integrating these snack items into structured peer-sharing activities and counting/sorting math centers—where students practice categorizing items, counting out quantities, and taking turns offering items to classmates.
