I sincerely appreciate your support of my students and our learning environment.\r\n\r\nIn previous years, my classroom had a few wobble stools that the students absolutely loved. After many years of use, they eventually became damaged and unsafe, so we unfortunately had to remove them. The students were thrilled to see wobble stools return to the classroom, and their excitement was immediate.\r\n\r\nBecause of winter weather delays and testing schedules, I wasn't able to meet with my small groups for a while after they arrived in January. Now that we are back into our regular routines, the students have been eager to use them. They love the flexibility the stools provide, and they help students stay engaged and comfortable while we work together. I have to have a rotation of use, as so many want a turn! \r\n\r\nYour generosity helps create a classroom where students feel excited to learn and supported in the ways they focus best. Because of you, these carefully selected books are already making a meaningful impact in our small groups.\r\n\r\nWe have completed our first novel study with There's an Owl in the Shower, and the students fully immersed themselves in the story. After reading, they wrote thoughtful summaries and then created \"paper craft movies\". They are illustrated, scene-by-scene retellings of the novel. I have attached screenshots of those videos, but I wish you could see and hear them! Students carefully sequenced events, captured key themes, and presented their stories as miniature films. It was incredible to watch them bring the text to life while demonstrating strong comprehension and creativity (all while secretly improving their writing abilities). \r\n\r\nThis work goes far beyond reading a novel. Through these texts, students are building empathy and cultural awareness while strengthening reading comprehension, critical thinking, and discussion skills. They are learning to analyze perspectives, consider moral dilemmas, and connect literature to real-world issues.\r\n\r\nOur fourth graders have extended this thinking into research on endangered species within North Carolina, examining the human and environmental factors contributing to population decline. They are asking difficult questions about responsibility, conservation, and stewardship.\r\n\r\nMeanwhile, our fifth graders are currently reading Bull Run and engaging in meaningful conversations about how war divides families and communities. They are also exploring current events, making connections between historical conflicts and the world they see today. They are preparing for a monologue movie project in which they will step into the voice of a historical character. While winter weather and over two weeks of snow delays have slowed our timeline, the depth of thinking and discussion has been powerful.\r\n\r\nNext fall, I will begin The Phantom Tollbooth with fifth grade first, and my current fourth graders are already eagerly anticipating their turn with this imaginative and thought-provoking novel.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is nurturing not only strong readers but also compassionate, informed thinkers. These books are helping students grow academically while also expanding their understanding of the world and the people within it.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and for believing in the transformative power of literature.","fullyFundedDate":1761931292657,"projectUrl":"project/beyond-the-page-gifted-readers-explorin/9836935/","projectTitle":"Beyond the Page: Gifted Readers Exploring the World’s Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thompson-Weber","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp22487_orig.jpg?crop=201,201,x0,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756229945567","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lisaweber"},{"teacherId":22487,"projectId":9696361,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for supporting my project, \"Gifted Minds in Motion: Flexible Seating for Focused Learning.\" Your generosity has truly helped transform our classroom environment.\r\n\r\nThe new flexible seating options have given my students the freedom to choose where they learn best. This simple change has made a big impact, especially on group work. Students now move naturally between reading, writing, and group work with focus and enthusiasm. During our literacy lessons, I've noticed more collaboration, longer attention spans, and a greater sense of ownership over their learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was contagious! Students eagerly tried each new seat and are still rushing to be the first in their seat of choice in the classroom. That joy and curiosity have continued every day since. The flexible seating has become part of how we create, discuss, and learn together.\r\n\r\nAs we move into new projects, students will continue using these spaces to write, design, and collaborate, building not only academic skills but also confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and helping create a classroom that supports both movement and mindful learning.
