Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to provide students with the tools and guidance to develop a new skill and they have thrived in this space of creativity and mutual support. My students were so excited to open up the delivery boxes with me and see the vibrant colors and materials they would be working with! Most of our students have gone from absolute novices to collaborative apprentices in the space of a few short weeks and we are fostering cross-class friendships while we learn together. A few of our club members have even taken on a mentoring role with their peers and have begun sharing their new skills with siblings and family.\r\n\r\nIt has been so meaningful, especially as we approach the winter months and holidays, to hear teachers and students express joy relating to the work we are doing in Fiber Arts Club. Students have begun creating small tokens of appreciation to give to teachers and spoken of plans to make gifts for others in their free time. Teachers have approached us wanting to participate and expand this space to include lower grades as well. The impact of this LG Ultragear Monitor has been profound on my students. In all of my classes, we have virtual lessons as part of the larger SBVL program in NYC. This donation has enabled me to build a collaborative programming space, more easily manage the presentation of content, all while more closely monitoring my students and their engagement and understanding. All of my students have really benefited from having this extra presentation space during my virtual lessons to map out and design apps and then perform their programming builds. My students are regularly designing, building and debugging apps, video games, websites and animated short films in JavaScript and HTML/CSS, and this extra pixel real estate for me when teaching is the perfect place to engage students sharing screen with the larger class, and for me to toggle between slides, content, graphics and our Code builders (IDEs).\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your contribution! Students who are currently having difficulty, can now more easily and more quickly get support as I can see all of their faces and the chat space - alongside my presentation and multiple screen shares. This extra screen space also enables me to regularly toggle between the builders and much needed digital entry points and scaffolds to help my students access the content and build the crucial understandings of the CS concepts. Until now, we had been limiting how much we printed or relying on shared copies. With this paper, every student now gets their own copy to work on, highlight, annotate, and reflect. It's given them a sense of ownership over their learning, and they've really embraced that.\r\n\r\nOne of the first ways we used the paper was for a Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning (CER) writing activity connected to our Geometry unit. Students were able to draft their responses, get feedback, and revise all on paper they could keep and refer back to. It helped them slow down and really think about how to build a strong argument. Several students who usually rush through writing actually asked for extra time to revise, which was a great moment to see.\r\n\r\nWe'll continue using the paper for practice problems, writing tasks, and hands-on learning activities throughout the year.
