My students and I value each and every one of our supporters and appreciate all the help we can get to fill our classroom libraries. With your donation, we are one step closer to having our dream classroom library filled with culturally relevant and complex texts. Students taking English I have the opportunity to complete independent reading reflections and to grapple with texts of their choice daily. We truly appreciate having the opportunity for students to have so many books to choose from and read. Students have been making lists of the books they are currently reading and the books they would like to read next. You are truly making a difference for English I students at KIPP DC Legacy College Preparatory and are helping us to achieve our ambitious literacy goals. We thank you so much for your generosity and for your care and concern for our classroom. Each year, I strive to bring my students the best possible education and other enriching experiences. However, with the costs of basic school supplies and other necessary tools, it can be hard to create learning experiences and provide all of the materials that we'd like to. We are so grateful for you.","fullyFundedDate":1722268533524,"projectUrl":"project/open-books-and-open-minds/8518772/","projectTitle":"Open Books And Open Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7230849_orig.jpg?crop=595,595,x227,y90&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1589260210658","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7230849"},{"teacherId":9745001,"projectId":8770355,"letterContent":"This letter is to extend our gratitude and share our groups outcome with the provided resources. The project was initially established to provide a group experience where my students could feel welcomed, a sense of belonging, a sense of identity to improve their overall engagement within an educational setting. Engagement can be difficult when many are not properly nourished and their facilitator does not have access to all resources that are needed to teach and build the effective skills they need. Each item that was received helped support their growth in prosocial behaviors, character building, problem solving skills and how to work as a team. The group really benefited from the generosity that was extended. \r\n Through a group setting, social emotional goals are being supported to ensure that my students will have option filled lives post graduation. During this time, group members are given biweekly projects to complete together. The project pictured was food drive initiative. Each were able to strategize on ways to advertise and collect for the food drive in their community. During this time. Three social emotional learning lessons were incorporated. Some examples included group members practicing initiating discussion through open ended questions, sharing interests and opinions on how to execute the project. All of the group members presented more engaged and able to positively communicate with their peers. \r\n In closing, the group thing project not only provided resources, but helped each member to meet personal goals for skill development.\r\nThere were specific times where students were observed encouraging one another when frustrations arised and reminding their group peers to use explicitly learned skills from group sessions to communicate their thoughts and concerns appropriately. In addition, students were more engaged when they were able to have break with something to eat, as access to proper nutrition presented some barriers to engagement.\r\nWe will focus on developing a teen lead skit for our next projects while working on social and emotional development. The group appreciates all of your efforts, generosity, time and support.","fullyFundedDate":1729974027733,"projectUrl":"project/its-a-group-thing/8770355/","projectTitle":"It's A Group Thing!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Scully","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9745001"},{"teacherId":9579199,"projectId":8474716,"letterContent":"I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generosity in supporting our classroom project.
