In my elementary counseling space, students now have the opportunity to use breathing tools that are pleasing to the senses. In addition, the regulation tools have added a great deal of depth to time in the counseling room. Students have increased their curiosity while also examining how to incorporate these tools when they are becoming dysregulated. \r\n\r\nUpper elementary students are enjoying analyzing situations provided through our new sticky situation cards while our lower elementary students are being introduced to self-awareness in age-appropriate books on patience, following the rules, and more. These learning tools have elevated approaches to individual and small group counseling needs. Currently, kindergarteners in my small group are loving the emotions, body part and action cards. We are using these cards to help us identify a feeling and actions that allow us to have those feelings. To see the way students are receiving the new additions to our social emotional learning space is exciting and fulfilling.
