In our room, reading now looks like a community of students who can dive into a text without the distraction of hunger or the stress of lacking basic necessities.\r\nThe impact of these resources was immediate. The new literature has allowed us to explore complex themes of identity and resilience, teaching students how to analyze diverse perspectives and develop critical thinking skills. However, a student cannot focus on high-level literary analysis if their basic needs aren't met. Having a dedicated \"care station\" with snacks and menstrual products has removed significant barriers to learning. I have seen students who were previously hesitant to participate now engaging more deeply because they feel comfortable and supported in this space.\r\nSpecifically, several of my students who previously struggled to find books they identified with have become some of our most frequent readers. They are seeing their own stories reflected in the women's literature you provided, which has sparked a newfound passion for literacy. Your contribution did more than just fill bookshelves and cabinets; it told my students that their education and their well-being matter to the community. Thank you for making our classroom a true sanctuary for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1771294300710,"projectUrl":"project/reading-as-resistance-a-womens-lit-cla/10062287/","projectTitle":"Reading as Resistance: A Women’s Lit Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Krone-Hawkinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6438095_orig.jpg?crop=4284,4284,x0,y714&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769397523265","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6438095"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63443","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2171,"numTeachers":87,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":66,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"25.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":63443,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Silverado High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Silverado High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/victor-valley-union-hs-dist/silverado-high-school/63443"}
