We often pause to ask questions like \"Why did the author choose this word?\" or \"What might this symbol represent?\" These conversations help students move beyond simply understanding the plot and begin thinking about how literature works.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant readers have been especially excited about the new books. Having fresh, engaging texts makes a big difference in their willingness to participate. I've seen students eagerly share passages they found interesting, debate character choices with classmates, and make thoughtful connections between the text and the real world. My students were able to use the graph and construction paper to make graphs about themselves. They also used poster paper to make a poster about their rescue pods (engineering design with reading series). We also created straw and rockets with tape, clay, straws & paper. These were used for force and motion unit (velocity, angles, speed, distance). \r\n\r\nWe are currently working on reviewing for SBAC testing. We are doing this table top blog style with poster paper using questions to create information pools with graphics to study. They strategized with their groups and work together to engineer a pod designed to send materials to individuals that have been impacted by a natural disaster.. they used the poster board to answer important questions, develop ideas, research and investigate their natural disaster and write the most important materials they would need for these people. \r\n\r\nThey then designed the pod and used the colored pencils to make their poster board attractive for their presentation. They then presented their project to the class.
