I believe in the importance of putting an actual book in student's hands whether they are in class or distant learning. The last year of digital learning, including reading books online or watching someone else read a book on YouTube has deprived our students of the joy that comes from holding and reading a printed book. My project includes several sets of class books because I feel that each student needs to have a book of their own, even during a read aloud. I have found that student's reading improves when they can see the words and follow along with whomever is reading. My project will promote Nevada Academic Content Standards: RL.3.(1-3) Key Ideas and Details, RL.3.(4-6) Craft and Structure, RL.3.(7-9) Integration of Knowledge and Ideas, and RL.3.(10) Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity.
