We begin each morning by gathering in a circle for our morning meeting. This is a special time for students to greet one another, build our classroom community, and start the day on a positive note. Whenever we are learning something new, students gather on their individual flower spots on the rug. These flowers help students maintain personal space, establish a consistent seating routine, and make turn-and-talk activities easy and organized.\r\n\r\nOne of my students' favorite ways to use the rug is for our weekly compliment circle. Students sit in a circle, and one student begins by giving a classmate a compliment. They walk over to that student, say their name, and share a specific, meaningful compliment. The student who receives the compliment then chooses someone new to compliment, and the process continues until everyone has received a kind word from a classmate. The rug has become a place where students lift one another up, strengthen friendships, and discover the power of kind words.\r\n\r\nEven when students have the choice to sit in a chair or find a spot elsewhere in the classroom, most choose the rug! They love curling up with a good book, building creations with our STEM bins, and using clipboards to complete their activity sheets. The rug truly is the heart of our classroom—a place for gathering, learning, growing, and making lasting memories.\r\n\r\nOur class is so grateful for this thoughtful gift that will continue to make a difference in the lives of our students for years to come. Seeing the excitement on my kindergarten students' faces when they explored their new books was something I will never forget. Many of my students are just beginning their reading journey, and because nearly half of my class are English language learners, having engaging decodable books with supportive pictures gave them the confidence to practice reading on their own. They were so proud to choose books they could actually read and couldn't wait to share them with their classmates and families.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made a huge difference in our classroom this year. The books became an important part of our small-group reading lessons, where students practiced short vowel sounds, built sight word knowledge, and strengthened their decoding skills. I watched so many students grow from hesitant beginning readers into confident learners who were excited to pick up a book. Their reading growth has been incredible, and these books played an important role in helping them reach that success.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and investing in their future. Your kindness has helped create a classroom filled with joyful readers who are building a strong foundation for lifelong learning. We are so grateful for your support, and every time a student reaches for one of these books, we are reminded of your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1773840460576,"projectUrl":"project/decodable-books-students-can-read/9927108/","projectTitle":"Decodable Books Students Can Read!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Schain","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3661667_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701192305462","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3661667"},{"teacherId":3661667,"projectId":9392361,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my Donor's Choose project.
