Because of your kindness, we now have a binocular microscope that has transformed the way my students explore the world around them.\r\n\r\nThey are thrilled to find leaves, petals, rocks, and other objects (even insects!) outside our classroom to bring in and investigate. Watching them hurry inside to see what their discoveries look like up close has been such a joy. The microscope has sparked genuine curiosity, and their favorite part is drawing what they observe, carefully sketching tiny details they hadn't seen before.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made hands-on science real, exciting, and accessible for my students. Yes, a few of them are a little freaked out by their claws (especially after one pinched me), but they really enjoy checking on the crabs when they come into my room. Students learned background information about our hermit crabs and their environmental/dietary needs. We even added some isopods to the tank and made it partially bioactive. Your donation to this project has sparked a huge interest in animals, animal caretaking, habitats, and interactions between species in the same environment.\r\n\r\nThe students are delighted to clean out moldy food plates and sandy water bowls to take care of our nocturnal friends. They are vigilant in checking humidity levels and insisting that we need to use the spray bottle to make the tank more humid for the crabs. They've really become animals that hundreds of students feel responsible for and it's been a unifying experience for many. Students will continue to love and care for the crabs all thanks to your generousity. I have about 20-30 students who appear in my classroom each day during the 30 minute lunch recess. These are often the kids for whom a loud and active recess is not the ideal environment. Some of these students need a quiet, yet engaging, place to unwind during lunch recess. While these students are not out running around, they still need and want to play. This grant supports these students by giving them creative board games to play. \r\n School started 2 weeks ago in my town. Already, I have a large group of regular visitors to my classroom. Imagine their surprise when I brought out new playing cards, a set of Jenga blocks, and Charades for Kids! They were so delighted with the new Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza game. The old one had been played over 300 times, and the cards were almost disintegrating. There are still many students who choose to use my drawing and crafting supplies, but there is a growing number who are coming just to learn a new game and play with friends.\r\n In a few weeks, our school will start official lunchtime clubs, and I will be ready to host The Boardgame Club. This will bring an additional cadre of students through my room to utilize these brand new games. So many students will be impacted by your generous donation.","fullyFundedDate":1746475023735,"projectUrl":"project/board-games-beat-lunchtime-blues/9148887/","projectTitle":"Board Games Beat Lunchtime Blues","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Skinner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp529113_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x1008,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755687276011","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rskinner"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_71491","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":360,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":61,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.6,"schoolId":71491,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Shirley Rominger Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Shirley Rominger Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/winters-joint-unified-school-district/shirley-rominger-intm-school/71491"}
