My students now know that they can get their Chromebooks charged up as they walk into my classroom. \r\n\r\nThe excitement is in knowing that no matter what, our learners know that they can participate in an equal learning environment regardless of wear and tear on their equipment and or devices. It is a privilege and honor to have such an opportunity to replace essential components for our classroom technology through the efforts of the Donors Choose community. Students who might otherwise hesitate to participate will gain confidence as they use the buzzers and microphones to share their thinking. I have also created weekly check sheets for students that need help with organization. They can stick it on a page in their notebook to help them check off tasks as they complete them for the week. My students LOVE these tablets! They have been super excited any time I have brought them out so far. I love that I do not have to worry about having dry erase markers. Not to mention the mess that it can leave behind. My kiddos were super excited the first time I brought these out and asked if they could use them immediately while I was taking them out of boxes once they were delivered. I immediately had them drawing Protists on them to see if they understood which ones were autotrophic and which ones were heterotrophic. The kids have loved using them to gather real time data. I had students last year that tested one of the labs that I was revamping that had done it the original way. They definitely loved seeing the results on the screen and being able to compare their results from the lab in their lab book to the results from the sensors and seeing how accurate or inaccurate their results were. They even discussed why they may have gotten those results. They also saw when they pushed the car instead of just releasing the car and were able to adapt their release style accordingly to get more accurate results each time. Thank you for bringing these into my classroom for students to be able to learn from their errors and troubleshoot the problems. I purchased a cover for the cart to protect them even more when not in use, so all we have to do now is remove the cover, release the brakes, and steer them where they need to go. The kids had their first look at Protists yesterday with our Cell Theory Lab, where students get to see what Hooke, Leeuwenhoek, Schleiden, Schwann, and Virchow saw under the microscopes in the 1600s and 1800s! They truly enjoyed seeing the live organisms under the microscopes! Many of them jerked their heads back in surprise when they looked under and saw them moving. One student looked at me, very concerned, and said \"Uh, I am pretty sure there is something moving on this slide...\" Many of the kiddos thought they looked like bugs so they kind of freaked out, but they dove right back to the microscope to watch them move. It was definitely the hottest of 5 stations, with many going back for a 2nd or 3rd look. I cannot wait until they get to see the others as we talk about them in class. They are going to love it!
