They used the manipulatives to make tricky math concepts more concrete, whiteboards to work through problems and share their thinking, and anchor charts to help them remember important strategies. Having pencils, calculators, and charged Chromebooks ready to go also meant that students could jump into their learning without worrying about having the supplies they needed.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things to see was how much more comfortable students became with making mistakes and trying again. Whiteboards made math feel a little less intimidating because students could work out an idea, erase it, and try a new strategy. Manipulatives gave students another way to make sense of difficult concepts, especially when numbers and equations felt too abstract. These simple resources helped students feel more confident, participate more often, and see that there is more than one way to solve a problem.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, my students will continue using these tools to tackle new math concepts, explain their thinking, and work through challenging problems. The bus rides were filled with excitement, conversation, and anticipation. Having snacks available helped keep students fueled, comfortable, and ready for the adventures ahead.\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled when they saw the assortment of treats. It may seem like a small thing, but middle school students truly appreciate these special touches. They eagerly began brainstorming designs, considering how to represent their interests, personalities, and experiences. For many students, this was their first opportunity to participate in a project that combined creativity, technology, design, and hands-on craftsmanship.\r\n\r\nThe process involved much more than simply decorating clothing. Students learned about planning and design, paying attention to details, and persevering through challenges. They carefully weeded intricate vinyl designs, learned how the heat press worked, and watched with anticipation as their creations were permanently transferred onto their sweatshirts.\r\n\r\nThe tools you provided will continue to benefit students well beyond this project.
