Because of your generosity, my students now have Sculpey clay, sketch pads, specialty pens, and a variety of creative craft materials that have transformed our classroom into a space buzzing with imagination, focus, and artistic confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, the excitement was immediate and contagious. Students crowded around the boxes, eager to pick up the sketch pads and test the smooth glide of the fancy pens. But the biggest reactions came from the Sculpey clay—hands instantly reached for it, students exchanged ideas for mini sculptures, and the room filled with joyful chatter about what they wanted to create first. It was one of those wonderful moments where curiosity and creativity took over completely.\r\n\r\nWe are now using the materials during a unit on physical arts and craftsmanship, where students explore how artists and makers bring ideas to life through their hands. One group even filled every inch with character sketches. Something that never would've happened on paper because they'd be too worried about mistakes. The ability to erase, rewrite, and try again has made our brainstorming process braver and more joyful.\r\n\r\nWe've also been using the boards during our small group reading discussions. During a recent lesson, students used them to jot down predictions, sketch out text connections, and track their thinking in groups. Their engagement has greatly improved, and many have commented that the boards make \"learning more fun.\"\r\n\r\nThese dry-erase tools have already transformed the way we work together, and I can't wait to see how students continue to grow as thinkers, creators, and collaborators. We know students are coming into the classroom with such a wide range of skill levels and needs, and headphones allow me to differentiate and provide options for students to gain access to grade-level standards. I have a lot of multilingual learners in my classroom, and headphones are beyond useful for comprehensible language input and to provide a read-aloud option when available. I am also brainstorming a small unit on podcasting later this year--and you can bet headphones will come in handy then!\r\n\r\nAdditionally, your donation helped fund some other classroom materials I've been lacking -- a class set of scissors, Clorox wipes and a broom and a dust pan to help with our messes, and even some pencil-top erasers to help us fix our mistakes.
