Learning happens best when kids are front and center. In order for this to happen we have to step away from the the traditional desks and give our students so alternative options. Our daily community circle is a time for us to get to know each other and build a safe classroom. Having a classroom rug for us to share would foster the relationships our students are trying to make.
We really need a classroom carpet in our learning space.
The classroom carpet will be the heart of the room. The carpet will be the space where students can listen to instruction, work on group assignments, where I can pull small groups to continue learning, conduct morning community circles, and hold restorative circles.
Our students spend so much of their time at school. A classroom carpet will make our room feel like home. If students feel safe and comfortable they are then ready to learn.
Our most important part of our day is our daily community circles. During this time students greet each other, they listen to each other experiences, and participate in a classroom activity. Being able to gather in a circle around a, where each kid can make eye-contact is essential for kids to feel valued and important.
