Their favorite lessons occurred in the school garden when they took the clipboards out and sketched the plants and animals they saw. Clipboards also provide an opportunity to move to a quieter or more comfortable space in the classroom when their table spots weren't feeling great. \r\nIce packs helped students develop empathy for their peers. They play cooking, family, and even super hero at the kitchens! Someone is always the kitty cat, and needs elaborate kitty food to be prepared.\r\n\r\nThe recent rainy weather has already made the new kitchens a bit muddy, but then of course the students needed to \"clean\" them...well, you can guess how clean they actually got! But the sturdy plastic is durable and holds up well. \r\n\r\nWe have also done real cooking in the classroom--applesauce, soup, fruit salad, and noodles. There is similarly rich vocabulary development with the play kitchens and the actual cooking.\r\n\r\nThe project also helped us stock up on markers and other classroom supplies, that we always need!
