With the generous gifts you've provided, we were able to create a Calming Station with an inviting rug, a bean bag chair, and most importantly a portable divider, which offers privacy to the student working through their emotions, while minimizing distractions for the rest of the class. Additionally, we were able to purchase lesson materials regarding social and emotional learning, that have been instrumental in teaching our students how to more effectively cope in times of emotional distress. \r\n\r\nWhile the students initially appeared to be in awe of the new calming station, it didn't take long before they were beginning to use the calming station on their own, not just when they were in the midst of a maladaptive behavior, but also when experiencing precursor to such behaviors.
