Many of these items will be used toward adaptive academic advancements for my special needs students. Each student has specific goals they are working on that can be addressed effectively with the use of these items and materials. Many early learning goals include matching, sorting, letter and number identification, and pre-writing skills. Higher grades are beginning spelling and possibly even reading sight words and low level books. Because we encourage language and communication through use of a picture exchange system (PECS), having the correct and on-hand materials will allow my staff and I to prepare pictures for students to communicate their wants and needs without so much frustration.
