Your contribution to bringing micro:bits and agricultural kits to my classroom immediately enhanced my students' ability to be hands on with artificial intelligence concepts. Students first explored AI by using the micro:bits to make an AI activity tracker that recognizes their movements and categorizes them. Some students made exercise trackers, others made a dance evaluation tool to use in their performing arts class, and one student made a tremor detector to help with Parkinson's detection. \r\n\r\nNext, students used the micro:bits to connect to a small servo motor and create a sorter tool. Again, the project diversity was impressive! Several students sorted small candies, like M&Ms or Skittles, but others sorted fasteners for their robotics team, and one even made a sorter to identify if an object was a choking hazard for children.\r\n\r\nCurrently students are engaging with the garden sensor kits to build aquaponic and hydroponic gardens that are self-sustaining to bring fresh food to areas without large green space available.\r\n\r\nThe diversity of projects shows the power of computer science and student innovation to solve problems in our world. Because they spend so much time working through online classes, having something hands-on felt exciting and different to them. The first day I set everything out, they were a little hesitant at first until I modeled some games for them. A small group gathered around the table trying to solve the different cubes, and another student jumped right into one of the brainteaser puzzles. It was great to see them laughing, challenging each other, and taking a real break from their screens.\r\n\r\nThese materials have already become part of our Friday routine. However, even during the week, students who finish work early or need a moment to reset will head straight for the puzzles. One student has found it as her calming place to be alone and get lost in a puzzle.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I'll keep rotating new activities into the stations and using some of the life-skills resources during our weekly check-ins. These materials have brought a sense of fun, calm, and connection into a class that can easily about all computers and phones. These moments matter. The essential oil diffuser, salt lamp, and soft lighting created a more peaceful atmosphere right away, and students began asking to use the space to reset when overwhelmed. It's now become part of our daily routine.\r\n\r\nWe've also started integrating the No-Nonsense Algebra book and colored paper into small-group math stations. Students are using the gimbal stabilizer to record \"math mini-lessons\". The added tech tools and flexible desk setup give all students a way to participate fully, especially those who need accommodations for focus, sensory regulation, or mobility. As we continue exploring topics like identity and equity through our new texts, students are asking \r\nthoughtful questions and making powerful connections.
