Students see so many negative images of themselves represented in media. I would like to instead reward students for positive things that they do in class. The students I teach are mainly 10th-grade collaborative classes which are a mixture of special education students and general education students with academic and behavior issues. They are often left out of school-wide acknowledgment because such awards go to students who excel academically. However, I feel if I can boost my students' morale for catching them being good, it will positively impact their academics. Therefore, I am raising money for my student of the month program and Class DoJo behavior management system. Even though I teach high school, they still like to be acknowledged, and I would like to reward them for their excellence through certificates and other gifts.
