Because of your donations, my 2nd graders were able to dive into the National Geographic leveled readers. We used them to explore text features like captions, headings, and diagrams, and then shared what we learned. These books gave my students engaging nonfiction content that made reading exciting and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThis year I moved to 5th grade, and the impact continues. My students used the readers to launch our text features unit, using sticky notes to mark examples and spark thoughtful discussions. We also received our first National Geographic weekly magazine and enjoyed reading and discussing several articles together.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my 5th graders started the year with engaging nonfiction texts that built excitement and confidence. These resources gave us a strong foundation for reading lessons and showed students how text features make information easier to understand.","fullyFundedDate":1744290677348,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-reading-and-real-world-thinkin/9054144/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Reading and Real World Thinking for Today's Kids!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shrout","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9893365"},{"teacherId":571989,"projectId":9056020,"letterContent":"My 1st-graders are thrilled to be provided with color copies! My school does not have a color printer and we previously had to use our imagination with black and white copies. Oftentimes, the intended goal could not be accomplished because the details were lost in the black and white.\r\n\r\nWith our color printer, I am now able to bring subject matter to life with color pictures and readers for the students. They are thrilled to receive their own color readers - possible due to the eco tank refollable inks. My students have taken trips to our local state park and sketched living vs. nonliving components of our earth. On the way, they have picked up trash which we then weighed and sorted into compost and landfill. They have found items on the ground that they took back to the classroom for reusing. They also created chalk drawings of the changing of the seasons after lessons about the reason we see the changes we see, and then made predictions about what we would see in the following seasons and the reasons why.\r\n\r\nWe will continue to use these wonderful materials as we explore further the wonders of our natural environment and our responsibility in its stewardship. We cannot thank you enough for your donations that allow the students to become advocates for the health of our earth. We especially want to thank the Gates Foundation for matching donations! Students need to understand the impacts they have, both negative and positive, on our earth from a young age.
