They are investigating how regardless of the challenges that arise because of lack of access to resources, environmental challenges, or social/political conflict - communities know the value of education. Access to texts that feature children different then themselves has helped develop their empathy for children around the world.\r\n\r\nTo develop their understanding of themselves, students have used the All About Me posters. They work with their families to write and decorate a poster about their favorite things, their families, and their hopes for the future.\r\n\r\nThank you for donating these items so that young children can develop their empathy for people around the world, or right next door.","fullyFundedDate":1749136814976,"projectUrl":"project/role-models-and-diverse-backgrounds/9392078/","projectTitle":"Role Models and Diverse Backgrounds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Liddell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9556054_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721938820304","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sdccschelsea"},{"teacherId":9556054,"projectId":9124871,"letterContent":"Students were able to go through the inquiry cycle surrounding the idea of movement. They build bridges using materials donated.\r\n\r\nWhile exploring the physics side of the idea of movement, we also read many stories from Black History Month to learn about social movements. We also had a speaker come in to talk about her work as an art activist. \r\n\r\nYour donations helped students get access to materials that inspired them during their project night work to create a diorama, model, or piece of art to bring awareness to a social issue they care about. Students gained confidence in their ability to express themselves in writing, for many the jump was a grade level or more according to our curriculum's standards based rubric. We would not be able to provide the level of access to mentor texts, nor have the materials available to independently work on their literacy goals.\r\n\r\nWe start our unit on Peter Pan this coming week. Thanks to you and a matching donation, we have a copy of Classic Starts Peter Pan for each third grader at SDCCS. They will be able to actively look at the words, follow along with their fingers, see the illustrations up close. And then during small groups they'll be reading aloud in unison with each other. This is sure to be a truly magical time of learning for them!\r\n\r\nLater on, we'll be able to enjoy the full color copies of books that talk about water conservation. They'll be coming up with their own persuasive writing pieces about how to make the world a better place.\r\n\r\nOften we hear the feedback that the third grade class has developed a deep love and appreciation for reading. We first used the donated book bags when we visited the library. For some students, it was their first time visiting one and getting a library card. Students were able to carry their books back protected from the elements.\r\n\r\nNext, we started our science unit on \"Forces, Motion, and Magnets\" with excitement, knowing that at the end of the unit, we would get to use the magnetic sets. Students were joyful about getting to discover what magnets were attracted to. The magnetic sets also allowed students to develop a prototype of Maglev trains (magnetic trains that levitate). Students went through the engineering cycle of first starting with the problem, then designing the train, and finally seeing if it worked. The donation of the magnetic sets made it possible for both of our third-grade classes to present their projects to our community on March 5th. \r\n\r\nLastly, we are now getting ready for state testing by having students read through comprehension cards and answer questions. This will allow them to be better prepared to show what they know.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1733160517563,"projectUrl":"project/magnetic-minds-inspiring-curiosity-thro/8966556/","projectTitle":"Magnetic Minds: Inspiring Curiosity Through Reading and Science","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9847620_orig.png?crop=502,502,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732552261869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9847620"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_72615","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":459,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":59,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":35,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.5,"schoolId":72615,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about San Diego Cooperative Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"San Diego Cooperative Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-diego-unified-school-district/san-diego-co-op-school/72615"}
