These tools have been a great way for students to move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning. \r\n\r\nOur new way of thinking in math has changed drastically over the years. It is no longer a one strategy fits all type of math. Students are challenged to learn, find, and use multiple strategies to solve math problems. The tools have played an important role in helping students figure out what strategy works for them. For example, the counters have been used alongside ten frames to help students figure out how to make teen numbers or how to make a ten to help them add. It makes math engaging and fun. Thanks to these tools, my students have a better understanding of math concepts being taught.
