It might seem like a small thing, changing chairs to stools, but it makes an impact in a small room. Interactive environments, with movement and collaboration requires seating that allows students to be more mobile and flexible and that's exactly what this donation provided students. Upon seeing the stools for the first time, some students were so excited! Students choose the type of seating they prefer, and most will choose a stool.\r\n\r\nOne picture shows how inconspicuous the stools are and how students working on a craft are still mobile and able to stand or sit as they work. The stools also allow for more space between tables, so students have more room to walk freely. This donation allows the room to feel light and removes some of the environmental barriers/friction. One special moment was during a name-writing activity when students were seated at the new table. Many chose to sit right away and explore their new spots. The soft light has also provided a calming space for students who need support with regulation.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include using the table for letter-sound matching, counting activities, and sorting by different attributes. We also plan to use it for small group collaboration projects to support communication and cooperative play.
