For many of our students, college is still an abstract idea — something they are working toward but cannot fully picture. Having a book that speaks directly and honestly about what campus life actually looks like, the roommate conflicts, the dining hall overwhelm, the academic independence, has given our conversations a realness that no worksheet can replicate. Students are reading excerpts and immediately connecting them to fears and questions they already had but had not yet voiced out loud. It has opened up some of the most honest discussions we have had all year about what college will actually require of them.\r\n\r\nThe blank greeting cards have become a meaningful tool in our classroom. The anywhere chair and area rug have created a flexible corner that gets used constantly — during small group work, independent reading, and reflection activities. The small lamp has made a surprisingly big difference in the room's atmosphere; on heavier days, that softer light helps students settle in and focus rather than feeling like they're under a spotlight. These might sound like small additions, but for students who spend seven hours a day in institutional spaces, a corner that feels genuinely comfortable changes how willing they are to show up and engage.\r\n\r\nThe organizational tools round everything out, making sure that when students sit down to work, the materials they need are ready and the space feels intentional. Our students notice when thought has been put into their environment, and these donations made that visible.","fullyFundedDate":1742905299397,"projectUrl":"project/avid-classroom/9140711/","projectTitle":"AVID Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Salah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9502453_orig.jpg?crop=2065,2065,x0,y61&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711819859316","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9502453"},{"teacherId":9502453,"projectId":9345718,"letterContent":"In our AVID classroom, every single item that arrives is not just a supply — it is a statement to our students that they matter, that their learning environment matters, and that people who have never even met them believe in their potential. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we have been able to bring in resources that are already making a visible, tangible difference in how our students engage with their work and with one another. \r\n\r\nWe are using the rolling cart to store our games for community building. It makes everything run more smoothly and ensures everyone can access the materials.\r\n\r\nThe laminated weekly goal-tracking forms paired with our new fine-tip whiteboard markers have been a particular game-changer. Students use them daily to monitor their academic progress, write down their goals, and reflect on whether they are meeting their own expectations. The reusable format has also helped us dramatically cut down on paper waste.\r\n\r\nThe cozy corner, now stocked with snacks and designed as a calm, welcoming space for students who need a moment to reset or recharge, drew the most attention right away. Students who have used it describe it as a place where they can \"breathe and come back,\" and several have already taken advantage of the space on days when the weight of school, home, or just life felt a little too heavy. \r\n\r\nThe Totem \"Feel Good\" game made its debut during one of our community circles, and what started as a simple team-building activity quickly turned into one of the most open, empathetic conversations our class has had all year. Students were laughing, sharing, and genuinely listening to one another — the kind of community-building that AVID is built on, brought to life through a single, thoughtfully chosen game.\r\n\r\nOur AVID family is deeply grateful, and we cannot wait to show our donors the growth that comes next.","fullyFundedDate":1747185492415,"projectUrl":"project/high-school-avid-classroom/9345718/","projectTitle":"High School AVID Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Salah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9502453_orig.jpg?crop=2065,2065,x0,y61&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711819859316","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9502453"},{"teacherId":8458478,"projectId":9147469,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping me and my students! You helped me create a wonderful environment that made my students feel welcomed, encouraged, and supported. The students got so excited when they first say the supplies! Students loved having the positive encouragement. The whiteboard paddle boards were a huge hit! We used them to help review for the AP exam. The clipboards allowed the students to walk around and do work at the same time. The squishys were included in a good luck packet for students the day before the AP Exam.
