The students have been earning Pokemon cards and they trade them at the end of the school day. They pick their cards right before dismissal and are eager to trade amongst themselves and the students from the other classrooms. They've built new friendships while trading when waiting to get picked up after school. They translate what energies they're going to use from English to Spanish and the amount of damage that the cards do. They also sound out the names and what each card says while asking those around them to help them figure out what exactly the card does. \r\nWhen the Pokemon cards arrived, they were elated and ready to earn the cards. They have increased they're addition strategies through adding in the energies with the cards. They think aloud when they're adding and talk amongst each other as to why their cards do more damage and why. The students have built the automaticity within recognizing which cards do more damage and why. \r\nThe classroom integrates the IB curriculum as well, so the students have made connections with the words evolution, change, express, and so many more to the Pokemon cards and trading. The students build within their learning constantly while continuing to be engaged and building friendships whilst translanguaging.","fullyFundedDate":1735840741767,"projectUrl":"project/fostering-a-learning-community-through-t/9003349/","projectTitle":"Fostering a Learning Community Through Trading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9872320"},{"teacherId":9582293,"projectId":8480255,"letterContent":"I want to express my deepest gratitude for your generous support in providing our school with pickleball nets and paddles. These resources have made an incredible difference for our students, transforming our physical education program and creating a more engaging and inclusive environment.\r\n\r\nThe moment the students saw the new equipment, their faces lit up with excitement and disbelief. For many, it was their first experience playing with real nets and having enough paddles for everyone to participate simultaneously. One unforgettable moment was seeing an entire class cheer when they realized they could all play together without waiting for turns. This has not only boosted their enthusiasm for the sport but has also encouraged collaboration and sportsmanship.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the equipment in our daily PE classes, where students are learning the fundamentals of pickleball through drills, games, and friendly competitions. The nets and paddles have allowed us to introduce proper techniques and strategies, providing a more authentic and enriching experience. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has opened up new opportunities for our students, inspiring them to stay active and explore a sport they've quickly come to love. Thank you for making this possible and for giving our kids a chance to play, learn, and grow in ways we couldn't have imagined.","fullyFundedDate":1726847013324,"projectUrl":"project/pickleball-for-pe-fitness-teamwork-an/8480255/","projectTitle":"Pickleball for PE: Fitness, Teamwork, and Lifelong Skill","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Suniga","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9582293"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14292","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":205,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":100,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 7","studentTeacherRatio":"6.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.4,"schoolId":14292,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Roy Cisneros Leadership School for Boys on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Roy Cisneros Leadership School for Boys","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/edgewood-ind-school-district-san-antonio/roy-cisneros-elementary/14292"}
