From the very first day the standing desk and tall stools arrived, students gathered around with excitement, eagerly asking when they could try them out. One student who often struggled to stay seated during long work cycles smiled and said, \"This helps my brain stay awake.\" Since then, the flexible seating has become a natural part of our daily rhythm—students independently choose where and how they work, whether standing to complete math problems, perched on a tall stool while writing, or moving between locations as their concentration needs shift.\r\n\r\nThe impact on focus and engagement has been immediate and meaningful. Students who once needed frequent reminders to stay on task are now more settled and productive because they can listen to their bodies and adjust their posture accordingly. During a recent research and writing project, several students chose the standing desk for extended periods, explaining that it helped them think more clearly and stay involved in their work. These moments have reinforced the Montessori principle of student choice and shown our learners that their needs are respected and valued.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these seating options during long work cycles, collaborative projects, and independent research. They are learning to reflect on what environments help them do their best work—an essential skill that extends far beyond the classroom. Your support has helped create a learning space that promotes physical well-being, independence, and deep academic engagement, and we are so grateful for the positive change it has brought to our students' daily learning experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1762311556340,"projectUrl":"project/standing-tall/9478815/","projectTitle":"Standing Tall","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1529943_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x76,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1633657246139","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/leslie-gray"},{"teacherId":10115463,"projectId":9631913,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our student support space now has something truly meaningful we call the \"green chair.\" It has quickly become a safe and trusted place where students can pause, reset, and regain control of their emotions. The green chair is not just a seat, it is a choice. Students are only allowed to use it when they can recognize and express that they need a moment to calm down. That small step is helping them build self-awareness and accountability in real time.\r\n\r\nThe space around the green chair includes emotional regulation tools such as books, fidgets, and textured materials. Students often select a book or hold onto a soft item while sitting in the chair. One of the most powerful things to witness is how naturally they settle in—hugging the pillow, slowing their breathing, and allowing their bodies to relax. You can see the shift from overwhelmed to regulated right in front of you.\r\n\r\nWhen students were first introduced to the green chair, they were immediately drawn to it. They were curious, but more importantly, they respected its purpose. It didn't take long for them to understand that this is a place to come and get yourself together so you can return to class ready to learn. Over time, students have even begun to recognize when they need the chair before behaviors escalate, which has reduced disruptions and supported smoother transitions back into the classroom. \r\n\r\nThe green chair will continue to be an essential part of how I support students who are learning how to identify their feelings. Thank you for helping create a space where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to take control of their emotions.","fullyFundedDate":1761936641909,"projectUrl":"project/a-calming-chair-and-soothing-sounds-for/9631913/","projectTitle":"A Calming Chair and Soothing Sounds for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Twana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10115463_orig.jpg?crop=197,197,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1774972281368","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10115463"},{"teacherId":10405665,"projectId":10027151,"letterContent":"I would like to say how much I greatly appreciate you for donating the ball chair for my room. Telestrations gives every child (and even their teacher!) a chance to participate, communicate, and enjoy positive shared experiences. Our crochet supplies are already creating leadership opportunities—two students who know how to crochet will teach their classmates how to make granny squares. Together, students will create pieces for themselves and contribute extra squares toward a classroom quilt that we hope to auction to support future classroom needs. Your kindness has had a meaningful and lasting impact on my students, and I am truly grateful for the care and thought behind your support.\r\nThe toys you provided have become an essential part of our learning environment. Each item has offered opportunities for students to build both academic and social skills in ways that feel natural, engaging, and joyful. Through cooperative play, problem-solving activities, and imaginative exploration, my students are strengthening skills such as communication, turn-taking, collaboration, and self-regulation. These are foundational abilities that support not only their learning in the classroom, but also their confidence and success beyond it.\r\nAcademically, the toys have helped reinforce important concepts such as counting, sorting, pattern recognition, language development, and early literacy skills. Students are more motivated to participate when learning feels like play, and I have seen noticeable growth in their focus, persistence, and willingness to try new challenges. The hands-on nature of the toys allows students with different learning styles to access the material in meaningful ways, helping each child feel successful.\r\nOne of the most exciting parts of our classroom routine is our monthly toy rotation. When students learn it is time to switch to a new set of toys, the excitement is immediate and contagious. They eagerly ask questions, make predictions, and share their enthusiasm with one another. This rotation keeps engagement high and gives students something positive to look forward to each month. It also encourages flexibility and adaptability, as students learn to explore new materials and revisit familiar skills in fresh ways.\r\nBeyond academics, the toys have created opportunities for social growth that are truly invaluable. Students practice sharing, negotiating roles, expressing their ideas, and resolving conflicts with guidance and support. I have watched friendships form, confidence grow, and students who were once hesitant become more willing to interact with their peers. These moments of growth are powerful and deeply meaningful.\r\nYour generosity has helped create a classroom environment filled with curiosity, excitement, and opportunity. The joy on my students' faces as they engage with the toys is a daily reminder of the difference your support has made. I explained that it was a new way to help us take care of our bodies and minds when emotions run high or energy runs low. Since then, this small addition has made a big difference in how quickly my students are able to calm down and re-engage in learning. Having something cold to drink after being upset, overheated from recess, or overwhelmed in my room helps them regulate faster and get back to a calm, safe space for conversation.\r\n\r\nThe fridge has also quietly supported students who face food insecurity. A few of them visit my room two or three times a week just to check if there's fruit, yogurt, or a snack available. They know they can count on this space for a small moment of comfort and stability. What started as a simple resource for dysregulated students has become a symbol of care and community in my room.\r\n\r\nMy next step is to keep building on this idea, using the fridge to support self-regulation, healthy habits, and empathy.
