A school of Glo Tetra fish, live plants, and 4 \"King Troopa\" snails were recently added! We all patiently waited for the water to establish a safe level of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate after adding the plants to the water. It took us about 8 weeks, but once the fish were swimming the week of Jan 26th, we were all delighted! I got a feeding schedule of about every other day to give each student the opportunity to help with the fish food. Students are choosing this new Cooldown zone to relax with a sand timer for 3 min at a time. Look at the photos, and you can see why! We also are having conversations about life cycles (How do snails make baby snails?) and gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Real world science!\r\n\r\nIt has been a lot of learning and relaxation so far. We have added aquatic critters to our list of Star Jar rewards on our \"Spin the Wheel.\" We have the possibility of earning aquatic frogs, snails, and more fish!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your help on this big project! I couldn't have done it without you. I hope to maintain this fish tank for many more classes to come. \r\n\r\nPS: we don't turn on the blue light often to make the fish glow, as we are not sure if it is good for the them over time.
