These texts have been more than just reading material—they have become powerful tools for building essential skills such as critical thinking, empathy, and cultural awareness.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading has transformed into an interactive experience. Students connect deeply with characters who face challenges similar to their own, while also exploring stories from cultures and viewpoints different from theirs. This has sparked lively discussions, helping students practice respectful dialogue and broaden their understanding of the world.\r\n\r\nMany students who were previously reluctant readers are now eager to engage with the books. For example, some of our most resilient and creative learners have found inspiration in characters who overcome adversity, which has boosted their confidence and motivation to learn. These new texts have helped foster a stronger sense of community in our classroom, where every student feels seen and valued.\r\n\r\nBy investing in this project, you are empowering our students to reach their full potential and inspiring them to become lifelong learners and leaders in their communities. Your support is truly making a lasting impact on their educational journey.","fullyFundedDate":1746785788310,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-brighter-futures/9213043/","projectTitle":"Books for Brighter Futures","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nesel 602","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9844027"},{"teacherId":4637990,"projectId":8631899,"letterContent":"The two books ordered All the Bright Places, and Smoke were added to my 11th grade reading options that I use for my \"Book Club\" project. These two books gave unique options that students did not have before. \r\n\r\nSmoke is a very controversial book as it deals with abuse and loss and overcoming obstacles. This book is unique in that the book is written in 2 different characters points of view and is written in verse. All the Bright Places is also written from two different points of view and deals with trauma, mental illness, as well as abuse. Sadly many of my students can connect with these topics as some have gone through some of these or similar circumstances.\r\n\r\nStudents who enjoy poetry are appreciating the the verse novel Smoke. Some were intimidated at first by its length but once they started the novel they realized it is actually a quick read. \r\n\r\nSince students are able to connect with these books, and are interested in the topics it makes them want to read more. By working with classmates on reading as well as dissecting the novels and interacting with the books as a group they have lively discussions concerning these novels. After reading the novels students create a literary analysis essay as well.","fullyFundedDate":1731940440871,"projectUrl":"project/variety-is-the-spice-of-life/8631899/","projectTitle":"Variety is the Spice of Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greenberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4637990_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1538285006207","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4637990"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_79661","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":902,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":22,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.9,"schoolId":79661,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rosamond High School Early College Campus on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rosamond High School Early College Campus","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/southern-kern-unified-school-district/rosamond-high-school/79661"}
