The books have been wonderful and now we have full sets of books for our curriculum libraries. Prior to this project, when we encountered a lesson series were we had a missing book, our only option was play a Youtube video of a reading of it. It was less personal and a bit disruptive to stop the video in order to ask clarifying questions. Now that we have the physical books we can read at our own pace, feel and see the physical book and take our time in answering questions about the text. It's also nice as for the example photos, we read the book we got The Box Turtle. Students were able to point to the words in the text for the sounds they heard and when they went to do their independent writing activity they could pass the book around to look at it to get ideas about what the could write about. These items have really motivated the children to focus and work hard in class. They also feel a sense of pride when their scores go up and they achieve behavior milestones. It has been a joy to see the students be excited to see how well they scored on assessments and earn a reward from it as well as them taking ownership of their behavior to earn positive behavior points that collectively add up for them to exchange for rewards in the treasure box. Your donation provided many items to go in the box and help learning and paying attention and working hard be a fun and exciting things for students, especially these young 1st grade students. These have especially come in handy during the state testing for English language development. These tests are very long, especially for 7 year olds, to sit at the computer for an hour at the time and be focused. The students also appreciate having their own copies of work rather than only using a journal, which does not allow them to do cutting and pasting activities and projects.\r\nThank you again for providing paper which has allowed us to communicate with the students' parents, print out as much assignments, homework, and visual aid references as needed.
