I teach a small math intervention class for high school students where we work to develop confidence and skills in mathematics. My students' mathematics abilities are still impacted by the Covid disruption and we are working to help fill in some of the gaps that they still have from that time of irregular instruction they had in late elementary school. My students are getting better at multiplication, division, fractions, area, volume, and perimeter problems. I focus on giving students lots of choice about the types of numbers they get to work with. I call them \"just right\" numbers. As we are are moving into the fourth week of school this year, I am seeing my students start to stretch themselves and select numbers that are bigger or include decimals or fractions. \r\n\r\nPart of what has made them comfortable enough to do this is that our classroom meets their basic needs.
