When students have access to a quiet area designed for relaxation and mindfulness, they are better able to manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions.\r\n\r\nStudents who use our Zen Den show improved focus and self-regulation after taking time to reset. Instead of remaining overwhelmed in class, they can step away briefly, practice calming strategies, and return ready to learn. This can lead to fewer behavioral disruptions and stronger classroom engagement.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, this Zen Dens helps students build healthy coping skills such as deep breathing, mindfulness, and emotional awareness. Over time, students will learn to recognize when they need a break and how to manage their feelings in productive ways.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping our students.","fullyFundedDate":1772461650766,"projectUrl":"project/mindful-moments-the-zen-den/9965706/","projectTitle":"Mindful Moments: The Zen Den","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jordan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10003860"},{"teacherId":10328171,"projectId":9855033,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our students experienced both joy and belonging this season. During the holidays, I was able to distribute supplies and gifts that supported reminded students that they are seen and cared for beyond the classroom. The reactions were immediate, wide smiles, surprise, and in some cases extreme gratitude. For many of our students, knowing that someone they have never met chose to invest in them was just as meaningful as the items themselves.\r\n\r\nDuring our sessions, the additional supplies allowed us to create more interactive and restorative experiences. Something as simple as Play-Doh became a powerful engagement tool. Students who might normally sit quietly began creating, laughing, and opening up while their hands were busy. Play lowered walls. It created space for conversation. It helped us blend social-emotional learning with fun in a way that felt natural rather than forced. \r\n\r\nWe are continuing to integrate hands-on materials and incentive-based recognition into our sessions to deepen connection and increase participation. For many of my students with special needs, hunger can quickly turn into frustration, shutdown, or difficulty concentrating. Having snacks available has helped prevent meltdowns, improve attention during lessons, and support smoother transitions throughout the day.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the snacks, their eyes lit up. They felt cared for. They felt important. For some of them, it wasn't just about food, it was about knowing someone out there believes in them.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these snacks will continue to support our daily routines, behavior goals, and academic growth. We are currently working on improving reading comprehension, independent task completion, and social skills during group activities. With their basic needs supported, my students are better able to practice self-regulation, participate in lessons, and build confidence.\r\n\r\nYour support is more than a donation, it is encouragement, dignity, and opportunity for children who work twice as hard every single day.\r\n\r\nThank you for fueling not just their bodies, but their smiles, confidence, and love for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1763578882460,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-for-smiles-fueling-learning-for/9797550/","projectTitle":"Snacks for Smiles: Fueling Learning for Special Needs Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sanchez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10240502_orig.jpg?crop=413,413,x0,y59&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757552400814","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10240502"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_73399","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":518,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":74,"percentWhite":14,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.2,"schoolId":73399,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Romulus High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Romulus High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/romulus-community-school-district/romulus-high-school/73399"}
