By giving them the freedom to choose a spot that helps them focus—whether it's a wobble stool, a floor cushion, or a standing space—my students are more engaged, calm, and ready to do their best work. I've seen major improvements in their ability to stay on task, collaborate with classmates, and take ownership of their learning. Students who used to struggle with sitting still can now move appropriately, and students who were hesitant to participate are more confident and willing to try. Flexible seating has created a classroom environment where every child feels comfortable, supported, and excited to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1636979726079,"projectUrl":"project/the-flexible-classroom/5991382/","projectTitle":"The Flexible Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Heck","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8177288_orig.jpg?crop=1303,1303,x0,y256&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763755291316","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8177288"},{"teacherId":9525308,"projectId":9297676,"letterContent":"I'm so excited to share that we've begun using the materials you helped provide—and my speech students are absolutely loving them! Whether it's building vocabulary, practicing articulation, or working on social skills, these resources are making our sessions more engaging and effective. Now that we have these amazing new materials, our next steps involve building on the foundational speech and language skills we've been targeting. For younger students, we're incorporating the new tools into play-based and interactive lessons that focus on expanding vocabulary, improving sentence structure, and increasing expressive language. \r\n\r\nWe're also beginning to integrate these resources into classroom collaboration, so students can practice their communication skills in more natural settings with peers and teachers. This helps promote generalization of skills beyond the therapy room, which is a key step in their progress. \r\nThank you again for believing in our classroom. These have been especially useful in calming our students when they are escalated. We cannot thank you enough for investing in those kids who need it most! They look forward to the arts and crafts that they get to do with the supplies you provided. For Christmas, each student created a keepsake ornament to gift to their parents. They painted popsicle sticks with the watercolor paints to create a frame unique to them as they chose the color schemes. Then they painted four fingers with white paint to stamp four little snowmen onto the cardstock, providing a keepsake of themselves within the ornament. They drew scarves, noses, arms and more onto their personal little snowmen to create an adorable winter scene for their families to hang up on every winter holiday to come. Their joy was contagious and the results precious!\r\n\r\nThe cardstock and art supplies has been helpful in so many ways. For Valentine's Day the students used the medium of their choice (paint sticks, chalk, pastels...) to color geometrically designed heart cut outs to take home to their valentines (who is usually mom). They were so excited to be able to show their love to those they cherish most. Just today, I created flashcards using the brightly colored cardstock to help students learn their math. The students have also used the cardstock to learn art skills following guided drawing lesson videos. Our little scholars have added art to their portfolios that they will take home at the end of the year as well. They are painting a tree for each season, fall and winter so far, with spring and summer to come. On Nevada Day they created colorful renditions of what they like most about our state...big horn sheep, blue birds, sagebrush, our state colors of silver and blue...\r\n\r\nLest we forget, they also love to use the balls you provided to play wall ball and kickball. Needless to say you have fostered creative minds, active play, and delivered opportunities for a group of students and their teacher who appreciate your kindness more than words can say. My students have written thank you letters that are coming your way. One quote in particular warmed my heart. He said \"Thank you for the Paintsticks they make me feel that I am in a good school\". When a child looks forward to school that is one of the best gifts we can give them. The collaboration was heartwarming to see. \r\n\r\nWe are looking forward to hosting more older and younger student collaboration times.
