When the students are doing their independent work they are much better focused now. I can incorporate more tutorials in class and they do not disturb the other students.\r\n The headphones also offer some quiet work space for some students who need to drown out the chaos that can be in the classroom. They do not even plug them in, it just makes them hear less of the noise.\r\n I think that the students really do appreciate having the better sounding and fitting headphones to use. The Deescalation and Relaxation area is used daily by several of my students for their breaks, to calm down, and when they need a place away from everyone else. One of the students uses the area as a place to make sentences with letters on the floor. Another uses it as a place to relax between assignments. A third uses it as a place to safely use the yoga ball in my classroom.\r\n\r\nMost students were confused when they walked into my classroom and saw that a corner was sectioned off, but after a quick explanation and some student use, everyone understood the need for the space as well as how to be respectful of those using it. It was awesome to see the students build them, but even more awesome when they started realizing how they moved and functioned.\r\n Some students really struggled but with time they understood they needed to pay attention and focus and things got easier.\r\n We talked about what would happen if some of the angles and attachment points changed. \r\n Having several different options for builds made the entire process more interesting. Some students built 2 or 3 different versions. First off they are very easy to use. The students get to use coding experience they have already learned and use it right away on the Sphero Robot. Each robot is used by 2 students at a time. Now the entire class is able to use robots. \r\n The ease of use, the ease of storage and the ease of learning really has been a game changer. Those students who may have been hesitant before are now asking to use them.\r\n Some of the most impacted students are those who are hesitant to try new things. They noticed how awesome the robots looked and came over to try. They were able to understand how to use them. They said that because of the ease of use, they could try out many ideas to do things such as slow down momentum, increase speed and to try to make the rollercoaster longer and bigger. As other classes came in the were super excited to see these test rollercoasters and were commenting on how they cant wait to try them next year. \r\n So far it has been a great addition to the STEM classroom. The motorized screwdrivers have helped speed up assembly and breakdown. And as silly as it sounds it has engaged more students. \r\n\r\nThe small magnetic bits have kept many of the screws from hitting the floor, such a blessing. \r\nthe magnetic strips give the small tools a destination on the table and has helped lose less of them in the build process.\r\n\r\nIt is many small things but it really has made for a more enjoyable robotic experience. \r\nAs a minimally funded program from the school district, I am relying on donors to help me offer my students the best learning experience i can offer.
