Our use of this is during class time where teen moms come to interact with their children. Our students and teen moms have been using the new resources to create an amazing hands-on learning experience in our classroom garden. The children have been thrilled to dig their hands into the soil, feel the texture of the dirt, and explore the plants as they grow. One special moment was when the kids clapped and smiled after planting their first seeds — their excitement was contagious! This project has created a new routine for the students. Every day when they go outside, they know it's time to water and check on their plants. Afterward, they love to go back into the classroom and engage in pretend play with the garden set toys, reenacting planting and watering — it's clear that they are connecting what they're learning to their playtime. \r\n\r\nThe first time the children and teen moms saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. All of the teen moms and kids come from urban settings where they don't have access to gardens or backyards, so seeing the soil, plants, and gardening tools was a new and exciting experience. The children were eager to dig in the dirt, and their curiosity and joy were evident as they touched the seeds and explored the garden. The teen moms were equally amazed — especially when they saw how many tomatoes could grow from just one plant with just a little effort. The pride is evident that the moms and students have from seeing their basil sprouts that they had truly created something by consistent planting and watering. The enduring lesson being consistency can create results. Their surprise and excitement have created a deeper connection to the project for both the moms and the children. \r\n\r\nThe next big step will be harvesting the vegetables the students have been growing. Everyone is excited to see how the plants have developed, especially the Brussels sprouts, which have surprised even the staff with how they grow on the stalk. The teen moms are excited about trying the vegetables with their kids — even vegetables that they don't typically eat. It's been rewarding to see how growing their own food has encouraged both the moms and kids to be more open to trying new, healthy foods. We are also thrilled that the local garden center has heard about our project and will be donating additional plants. The garden will serve as the end site for our Week of the Young Child project, and we can't wait to see the kids' excitement as they taste the vegetables they've worked so hard to grow.","fullyFundedDate":1735363017683,"projectUrl":"project/see-a-veggies-grow-see-a-bug/8904456/","projectTitle":"See a Veggie's Grow!
