One highlight was our first microwave cooking lesson, where students followed step-by-step task boxes to prepare simple meals while practicing reading directions, timing, safety, teamwork, and communication. They also took turns working at the coffee station to simulate real customer service tasks, and the pride they showed when independently completing steps and presenting their finished food was incredible to see. When the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate—students eagerly explored the coffee station, flipped through the new books, and checked out the task boxes, talking about what they wanted to try first. The new supplies truly transformed the space into a realistic café environment, which boosted both motivation and confidence.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we're expanding our microwave cooking unit so students can begin planning simple recipes, creating shopping lists, and working collaboratively to strengthen sequencing, problem-solving, and workplace readiness skills. We're also integrating the new books with Teachers Pay Teachers activities to reinforce reading comprehension and functional life skills tied directly to what they're practicing in the kitchen. These resources are helping us build independence, confidence, and real-world readiness every day. Thank you for supporting our mission and helping us create a space where learning is hands-on, purposeful, and empowering—your generosity truly keeps the Comet Café cooking!","fullyFundedDate":1764005410683,"projectUrl":"project/building-real-world-skills-functional-t/9793791/","projectTitle":"Building Real-World Skills: Functional Task Boxes for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9755351_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726880622411","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9755351"},{"teacherId":9755351,"projectId":9049506,"letterContent":"Thank you for making our Visual Recipes for Empowered Learning project a reality!\r\n\r\nYour support lets students follow step-by-step picture recipes, turning reading and life-skills practice into something they can taste and share.
