The ease of giving a student a pencil to complete assignments ensured that all classwork and notes are completed and finished accurately. By students being faced with so many more problems today, a pencil is the least of their worries now because of you. \r\n Everyone learns from mistakes, and using a pencil provides kids with an opportunity to make adjustments and turn in their best work. Writing reinforces memory and learning which will result in higher achievement. Writing is very important in my science class. Students use descriptive writing when explaining the process of photosynthesis, comparing and contrasting a food chain and food web, and drawing and labeling different body systems. By me having the pencil holder next to the sharpener, students feel at ease and is ready to learn knowing that they can grab a pencil and get started with their work.","fullyFundedDate":1737506643890,"projectUrl":"project/sharp-as-a-pencil/9072509/","projectTitle":"Sharp As a Pencil","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Triplett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7897426_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718808496393","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7897426"},{"teacherId":7897426,"projectId":9022226,"letterContent":"Boy-oh-boy, do my students like to color!!! Because I ordered large size crayons, the package was different from the normal 24-count box. Once the students opened their box of crayons, they were slightly mesmerized and played with each crayon for a small amount of time. I discussed with them the importance of making sure we handle and take care of the sets of crayons.\r\n Because of your generous donation, I began to incorporate lessons and assignments that require students to answer and match by a specific color (Color by Number). The use of coloring is very therapeutic and calming for students and serves a great tool in enrichment activities. My students have improved their reading comprehension and retention by having classroom notes and PowerPoint lessons printed out rather than digital formats. Students also found it easier to focus on reading and learning when using printed material, free from digital distractions.\r\n The ink cartridge donated helped facilitate hands-on learning experiences, such as solving math problems on paper and annotating texts in science, which improved critical thinking skills needed for state testing later this year. Students used \"germ powder\" (flour) on blocks and I had them pick them up and pass to a classmate. Students then clapped to show how germs travel not only from person to person, but also from surfaces to hands and to the air. At the conclusion of the lesson, students learned that the best way to keep germs away is to keep hands washed and surfaces cleaned.\r\n The clean smell of my classroom had my students inhaling and exhaling for the first 10 minutes of class. They raved nonstop about how clean and good the classroom looked and smelled. Bathrooms and classroom surfaces are touched by many people throughout the day and should be sanitized frequently. When these main causes of student illnesses are addressed, there may be fewer absences. Because things are constantly changing and shifting, sometimes literally, it can be challenging for students to feel settled. A clean learning environment provides the space students need to let their guard down. My students are now eager to help clean before leaving each day!!\r\n You generous donation will never go unnoticed and we are forever appreciative.","fullyFundedDate":1734546201569,"projectUrl":"project/clean-space-happy-place/8794769/","projectTitle":"Clean Space, Happy Place","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Triplett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7897426_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718808496393","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7897426"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107441","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":495,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":63,"percentWhite":23,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":51.0,"schoolId":107441,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about River Oaks Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"River Oaks Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/harrison-county-school-district/river-oaks-elementary-school/107441"}
