Then the boxes of materials arrived at the school. I couldn't believe my eyes! I eagerly unpacked everything and showed my students how generous people are in the world. They were thrilled! \r\n\r\nWe started using the materials right away. Students created a relief map of California regions using modeling clay. Those relief maps will also serve as the cover page of their California history research project. Students used the oil pastels to create a zoomed in flower inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings. Students really enjoyed using the markers and mirrors to create a Roy Lichtenstein inspired pop art self portrait. The self portraits will accompany a poem students will write for Mother's Day. The watercolor and crayon-resist leaf art piece was a hit! Students got a kick out of watching the watercolors take shape on the wet watercolor paper. \r\n\r\nWe still have time for students to create more art before summer vacation. I intend to keep them immersed in the art world for as long as I can. After all the time students spend on academics and test prep, the art activities are a welcome and needed change for my students. Thank you, truly, for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1736172951155,"projectUrl":"project/amazing-art-to-accompany-academics/8749387/","projectTitle":"Amazing Art to Accompany Academics","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gibbes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9736346"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75448","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":674,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":88,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":78,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"21.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.4,"schoolId":75448,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rio Vista Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rio Vista Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/palm-springs-unified-school-district/rio-vista-elementary-school/75448"}
