Together, we brainstormed ideas, developed their writing, and worked as a class to create special books to share at our Authors' Fair. Students took photographs of one another, and they were excited to see their own images become part of their authors' page. They created these pages, using photographs they had taken themselves to introduce the authors behind the books.\r\n\r\nThroughout the process, students practiced reading, writing, speaking, listening, and print skills while collaborating and celebrating one another's creativity. Once they saw me take the tape out of the box during a fraction unit, they were totally confused! However, after explaining how we were going to use it as a math tool, they were so anxious to get started! We have been using our tape to practice creating number lines with fractions and have been practicing fraction order and equivalence. When figuring out they have made an error, it is easy for students to pull the tape off and reposition it. They make their number lines nice and big so when we share answers, others are able toot view the number lines easily. Who knew tape could be such a useful math tool! The students were able to watch the Triops hatch and grow as they learned about life cycles of animals. The students loved checking in on the Triops each day and seeing them grow and swim. The students made meaningful connections and were able to truly connect the science content that they had studied to real world activities. \r\nThe students continue to learn and want to learn more about the Triops and other aquatic animals. They were able to learn about Triop life cycles and also how best to take care of these animals to help them survive in our artificial habitat. They loved working with the animals and some even wanted to try their own kits at home. These materials also will allow for future classes to be able to complete this project in the future with a small refresh of some supplies.
